My Lesson For Today (Judges 21:25 & Proverbs 14:12)
There is a proverb that says “The road to hell is paved with good intentions”
The book of Judges closes with these words: “In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes”
Have you ever genuinely tried to do what you thought was right, and then it ended up in a big mess you didn’t intend for it to? I have! That’s what happened in the book of Judges. The people did WHAT WAS RIGHT in their eyes. They were not trying to be intentionally evil; they were doing what was right in their own eyes, and right there lurked the danger. When you read the book of Judges, this society totally degraded itself into the most vile acts imaginable including raping women to death in groups and sending one of the woman’s body parts throughout the country.
But the thing is they were DOING WHAT WAS RIGHT IN THEIR OWN EYES. Just because you mean well doesn’t mean you are on the road to life. Good intentions can be deadly if they are not rooted in God’s word.
There is a way that seems right to a man, but it’s end is the way of death – NKJV
In what area of your life are you doing what “seems right” in YOUR eyes? God’s word (the king) has everything pertaining to life and godliness. Find it, and live by it.
