(Philippians 4:4-9, Mark 4:35-41)
Today, I had a really tough morning: I had slept for about 2 hours, and had two children screaming the house down just when I had caught some sleep. I WANTED TO SLEEP. My 4 year old wanted to go to school…and within about 30 minutes, I had raised my voice at my babies, and basically handed over my peace and started declaring how this is going to be a bad day. Then I realized that I was NOT in charge of my environment. My feelings were. So, I literally jumped out of bed with a mini migraine, went to the bathroom and started praying in the Spirit… I still felt very sleepy and fatigued, but I was determined to have a fantastic day, because I DETERMINE MY ENVIRONMENT. Not my feelings or circumstances.
You see, Jesus slept on a pillow in the midst of a crazy storm (Mark 4:35-41). On a pillow! Seriously! His disciples were busy fetching water desperately out of the boat, trying to keep it afloat, and Jesus was ASLEEP ON A PILLOW! The disciples were mad! They woke him up saying, “Master, do you not care that we perish?” Their idea of Jesus caring is: Join the chaos. Get concerned. Shove some water. DO SOMETHING “panicky”. But you see, Jesus is the Prince of Peace. His response to EVERY situation is already PRE-DETERMINED. And because of His inner reality, his outer reality had to catch up. He just released the peace on the inside of Him to his environment, and all He said was “Peace, Be still”. We can only release to the outside, what we have on the inside!
I am sure we all know a person or two, who are very very difficult to upset. I live with one J . THEY HAVE A PHILOSOPHY OF PEACE…You can shout your lungs out, and paint for them a picture of how dire the situation is, and they will respond the same as if this is the most calm, still day of their lives. I don’t think they have no feelings. I think they have just pre-determined their response. The truth is, panic and lack of peace will not make the situation any better. They just make us FEEL very “serious”, “concerned” and other such fancy words, but they DO NOT help the situation. Panic actually increases unbelief & strife and kills faith.
The stewardship of my peace and joy is solely MY responsibility. I will experience as much peace, love, joy, patience, kindness, goodness and self-control as I CHOOSE to allow into my life.
So, rather than allow your environment to define your response, define/ pre-set your environment today. Decide what it will look like internally, regardless of where you are, and the external will follow.
Declare “I AM NOT A PRODUCT OF MY CIRCUMSTANCES. I AM POWERFUL.”
Be a kingdom person. PRE-DETERMINE YOUR RESPONSE AND YOUR ENVIRONMENT TODAY!
HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND!
