Keep your heart with ALL diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. (NKJV)
I have always thought about this scripture only in terms of “defending” my heart and keeping away anything that would “contaminate” the springs of life.
Today, I saw something more. Think about a garden: how do we “keep” it? Beyond a fence to fend off intruders, we water it, weed it, prune, and nourish it. And in the beginning, we may not see the results, but with TIME and DILIGENCE, all of us can SEE a garden that is well KEPT.
Our hearts are like gardens that spring forth with LIFE when we diligently and consistently nourish them, weed them, prune them and protect them from intruders. No matter how beautiful the garden, if left to itself for awhile, the weeds will grow, the goats will feast… It will wither.
God calls us to be diligent and consistent in keeping our hearts.
Just like we can’t hold our neigbor accountable for our garden, let’s never delegate our relationship with God to our pastors, our friends or a great fellowship only. Let’s grow a consistent intimate relationship with God.
Remember no one can keep your heart but you.
Now, let’s go gardening 😊.
